{"id":1907,"date":"2021-09-14T17:22:11","date_gmt":"2021-09-14T17:22:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thedanceacademy.org\/?page_id=1907"},"modified":"2021-09-15T10:40:53","modified_gmt":"2021-09-15T10:40:53","slug":"the-growth-mindset","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/thedanceacademy.org\/index.php\/the-growth-mindset\/","title":{"rendered":"The &#8220;Growth&#8221; Mindset"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Using the Growth Mindset in Dance<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2008, Stanford University psychologist Carol Dweck detailed her &#8220;mindset&#8221; research in the book, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/Mindset-Updated-Changing-Fulfil-Potential\/dp\/147213995X\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mindset: the New Psychology of Success<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the book, Dweck showed that people tend to fall into two categories when faced with having to learn new things or develop a new skill or deal with a challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those with a &#8216;fixed&#8217; mindset believe that their skills and capabilities are innate and can&#8217;t be changed, and that what they are capable of doing is all about them as a person, part of their identity. Such people tend to avoid challenges, give up easily and receive criticism as a personal insult.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By way of contrast, those with a &#8216;growth&#8217; mindset see their skills as something that they can develop and improve on through effort.
